I really enjoyed Girl Scouts a lot more when we were in Michigan. Communication has not been going well and it's just been such a stress. Not sure I will continue being a leader next year. It seems there are a lot of things I enjoyed more in Michigan. People are not always nicer in the south. There are days here and there where I like it okay here, but overall I just miss home. It really sucks that we had to move. Yeah, it's beautiful here, it's nice not having the snow, but that's about it. Summer will be here and then we'll be stuck inside because it's 100 degrees everyday. I'd love to visit home this summer, but it's sure going to be depressing. I won't want to leave at all.

March 1st

Wow. I can't believe it's already March. Winter didn't really drag by this year since it wasn't miserably cold and snowy I guess. West Michigan winters are pretty intense. It was nice to get at little taste of snow last week. Apparently this is the most snow they've had in like 7-8 years. Of course it was gone by the evening, but it was really coming down in the morning! Just the day before it was in the 60's and Sean was hiking in the greenbelt with Rachel (Alexis was sick).

So, right after I said Liam wasn't saying the girl's names yet, he started saying them (kinda). Rachel is "Chachel" and Alexis is "Gecki". He also likes to say "Ewwww" to just about everything he thinks is gross! It's so funny. He thinks if he says "peas" (please) he will get whatever he wants, which it's hard not to because he's so darn cute when he says it! He just keeps saying it with this look like "but I'm saying please", ha!

Alexis is starting math tutoring today after school with one of the other 2nd grade teachers. She will go twice a week @ $50 an hour...yikes. But it's better to get her on track now than later.

Almost Two

It's hard to believe my baby is 22 months old. He is such a sweet boy, but is definitely hitting the "terrible two's". He seems to be on a mission most of the day to get into whatever he isn't supposed to. Last week we even started time outs, and now when he does something naughty and we say the words "time out", he gives us a look out of the corner of his eye and quickly goes to the time out spot! Sits there for about 3 seconds and then jumps up and runs away to have more fun. He also is at a stage where he loves to give kisses, hugs, and cuddle...soooo sweet! He is talking a ton, repeating lots of words we say. His first few words (a few months ago) that he really liked saying (and still does) were: shoes, football, out, go. (Do you notice a theme here?) He hasn't said Rachel or Alexis yet but repeats me when I call to them..."Girls!". When it's close to time for them to be home from school and I say "Rachel and Alexis will be home soon" he runs to the door and says "Sissy!". He really loves to dance. He still takes a nap everyday, usually around 11am. He is still a very smiley baby. People often comment on how happy he is. He is all boy. Loves to make growling, roaring noises with dad. Climbs on everything. Runs full force into everyone in attack mode. He definitely keeps us on our toes, this one! But he sure is cute, isn't he?!

A Spa Party

It's hard to believe my baby girl is now eleven years old. Where did the time go? Sigh. This year she wanted a spa sleepover party. I had fun making all the decorations. I think they turned out pretty cute! It was sad not having the regular "gang" at her party this year. There are some sweet girls here though. Meghan and Hibiscus came and helped with manicures and pedicures. I was very grateful...couldn't have pulled it off without them! The girls also made bath salts and decorated pillow cases with fabric paint. Of course Monster Liam had to run in the other room after we had been sure to keep him away while they were drying and in a split second he had stomped on half of them. Busy January

Lots going on this month as usual. Girl Scout meetings, field trips (roller skating and dentist), Girl Scout cookie sales begin January 20th, Cookie Booths for both girls at Walgreens and Starbucks opening weekend. We're also preparing for World Thinking Day. Rachel's troop is doing Hong Kong. Alexis' troop is doing Italy. I finally got around to replacing the "Heart of Michigan" on their vests with "Central Texas". It was ironed on and came off easier than I expected.

Planning is underway for Rachel's birthday party. She is having a Spa Sleepover party. I think we have Aunt Meghan helping with the spa. This is a time when I am bummed we aren't home with my wonderful friends and neighbors who would help me in a heartbeat with the pampering of the birthday girl and her friends. Of course I don't know anyone well enough here to ask for help. Oh well.

I still miss home so much. I still hate that we had to leave so many wonderful people. I still can't believe I'm living in Texas.

A Christmas Craft Party

A few days before Christmas we had a Christmas Craft Party for the girls. Last year after the holidays I had bought some crafts on huge clearance and thought it would be fun to have a party. Of course I had pictured them inviting their Portage friends when I envisioned this last year, but they quickly made a list of their new classmates and we sent out invitations. I made delicious Cake Balls to go along with the other yummy snacks. If you haven't had Cake Balls you need to make them. They are soooo good! You might remember I made the Cupcake Pops for Liam's 1st birthday. The Cake Balls are much easier.

I didn't get as many pictures as I wanted to because I was so busy with all the crafts. First they made Makit & Bakit Christmas ornaments. I remember making these once when I was little and I loved it so I was excited when I found this kit! The kit came with a great assortment of ornaments...gingerbread man, poinsettia, tree, teddy bear, present, train, angel, etc.

We took a break from crafts and did a small gift exchange. As you can see it was a hit!

I made gingerbread cake men for them to decorate. Yum!

Newborn Photography: Baby L

Miss "L" was born 3 weeks early and I photographed her when she was about 2.5 weeks old and all of about 6 pounds! She slept wonderfully for me and allowed me to get some practice photographing a newborn!

And since she was a December baby...

I was even able to fit her in a stocking!

And caught a little smile.

New Year

Finally. I can't believe how stressful 2009 was. (Big Sigh) December 30th Sean started at a new mortgage company. He is back to processing loans as well as originating. This will be great while he builds his business back up.

With all the stress of the past year I feel like I missed a year of my kids lives! I can't believe Liam is almost 2, Alexis will be 8, and Rachel ELEVEN?!

The 5th Grade Musical was last week. Rachel did a great job! She was in the Greek Chorus. Here is a summary of the musical:

Dig it!
Travel back in time and join inquisitive archeologists, Taki and Tut, and their fossil friend, Lucy, as they explore the wonders of ancient civilization. From the farm laborers of early Mesopotamia and Egyptian mummies who "rap" to a chorus of ancient Greeks and Romulus and Remus who dream of building a great city, you and your students will enjoy discovering the archeological mysteries of the past.

The last picture above was right before Liam had the entire audience and cast laughing. Throughout the performance there were a few little ones walking in the aisle next to us, not really bothering anyone. Liam would either sit on one of our laps or he got down a couple times and walked the aisle. Well, towards the end of Rachel's part on stage he was squirming on my lap so I said "look at Rachel dancing" to try and divert his attention. He stopped squirming and got down. I thought he would just just walk to the front of the aisle as he had before to watch. But he went past the front row running up and ON the stage! I tried to catch him but he made it up the steps and on the stage before I could get to him. This child has no fear!

Decorating for the Homeless

Today we went downtown and helped decorate for the holidays at a homeless shelter. We decorated a Christmas tree, hung lights, cut out paper snowflakes. I think it was a good experience for all of us. I didn't photograph them, but there were many homeless all around us. Sitting at tables and sleeping on the ground. What a humbling experience. Thank you Meghan for inviting us!
